Day of Rail 2026: Deutsche Bahn opens works, construction sites and signal boxes in Baden-Württemberg
From September 18 to 20, Deutsche Bahn invites visitors in Baden-Württemberg to the nationwide Day of Rail. At ten locations – from Ulm via Stuttgart and Pforzheim to Basel – the company offers insights into infrastructure, construction projects and day-to-day rail operations. Some offerings are already fully booked, while registration is available for many more.
S-Bahn line Cologne–Düsseldorf closed until December: Connection to full closure on key NRW axis
Following the full closure between Cologne-Mülheim and Düsseldorf Hbf, the next construction phase follows immediately: Until 4 December, the S-Bahn route is closed again. The reason is bundled maintenance work around the RRX expansion, the barrier-free conversion of Düsseldorf-Benrath, and extensive track and bridge work.

Tree blocks U-Bahn tracks in Hamburg-Volksdorf – U1 train evacuated
A fallen tree lay across the tracks of the U1 line on Tuesday evening at around 8:30 p.m. About 25 passengers had to disembark and walk back to the station.

Kurhessenbahn launches test operations with three battery trains in the Nordwesthessen network
Three battery-electric multiple units of the "Mireo Plus B" type will gradually replace diesel railcars on the RE39, RB38, RB39 and RB94 lines from autumn 2026. The five-year pilot operation by DB RegioNetz Kurhessenbahn, NVV, RMV and NWL is intended to demonstrate how BEMU vehicles can be deployed economically on non-electrified routes.

Two-day Verdi warning strike paralyzes buses in Schleswig-Holstein's major cities
From Wednesday to Thursday (8/9 September 2026), bus services of the municipal transport operators in Kiel, Lübeck, Flensburg, and Neumünster, as well as in the district of Plön, will be canceled. Verdi is urging around 1,800 employees to join the warning strike – no emergency services are planned.
Leipzig: Construction site on Prager Straße – tram and bus lines running as scheduled
From 7 September, Leipziger Wasserwerke is renovating combined sewer pipes and drinking water lines on Prager Straße between Gerichtsweg and Ostplatz. There will be closures for car drivers, but public transport is running as scheduled.
Czech Railways tests pure HVO fuel in RegioFox trains in regular service for the first time
České dráhy is expanding its tests with biogenic fuels: Three RegioFox diesel multiple units from the Rakovník depot will in future run on fully biogenic HVO on routes in Central Bohemia. Following a 20-percent HVO trial since April 2025, the company is taking a further step towards reducing local emissions on non-electrified lines.
