Affiliate Disclosure
Trainvave is a free resource. To keep it free, some of the links on this site earn us a small commission when you make a purchase — at no extra cost to you. This page explains exactly which links those are and how it affects the content we write.
Which links on this site are affiliate links?
- Omio (train tickets) — Links to Omio for booking train tickets go through
our Impact Radius affiliate link (
omio.sjv.io). When you book a ticket after clicking through, Omio pays Trainvave a small commission. - Stay22 (accommodation) — Hotel, apartment, and vacation-rental links — including our map widgets that show places to stay — go through Stay22. When you book accommodation after clicking through, Stay22 pays Trainvave a small commission (the booking provider pays Stay22, who shares a portion with us).
- Google AdSense — Display ads on some pages are provided by Google AdSense. We are paid by Google based on ad impressions and clicks.
Does this change the price I pay?
No. Affiliate commissions are paid to us by the retailer (Omio, the hotel, or the booking platform) out of their own margin. The price you pay is identical to booking directly on that site.
Does this change what Trainvave recommends?
No. We recommend routes, cards, apps, and services based on what we would recommend to a friend visiting Germany for the first time. If a service is bad, expensive, or has a gotcha, we say so — regardless of commission structure. We do not accept payment for coverage or reviews, and we do not change our editorial opinion for affiliate programmes.
Where we explicitly compare competing services (e.g., BahnCard 25 vs 50), we do not receive commission from either party — comparisons are neutral.
What disclosures apply to specific links?
Affiliate links on this site are marked with rel="sponsored" or
rel="nofollow" in the HTML, per Google's search-engine guidelines. Widgets that
embed affiliate content carry a "Commission-supported, no extra cost to you" note.
Regulatory basis
- EU (UWG § 5a Abs. 4): commercial purpose of communication is disclosed via this page, the per-widget "Commission-supported" note, and the Datenschutzerklärung.
- United States (FTC 16 CFR Part 255): this disclosure makes the "material connection" between Trainvave and the linked merchants clear and conspicuous.
- United Kingdom (CMA / ASA CAP Code): sponsored content is labelled as such; recommendations remain independent.
