Weeks of construction work: Rail lines around Tübingen and Reutlingen severely restricted from mid-July

From mid-July to mid-September, commuters and travelers around Tübingen and Reutlingen will have to expect numerous train cancellations and changed timetables. Deutsche Bahn is renewing tracks, switches and stations – buses are intended to absorb the traffic.

Quick overview

This report is particularly relevant for rail travelers, as it may have concrete effects on planning, connections or infrastructure. The focus is on Deutsche Bahn, Baden-Württemberg, Tübingen, Reutlingen, construction site, closure, replacement service and DB InfraGO. The key points are summarized below.

Key points

  • Between Stuttgart and Tübingen, Plochingen and Tübingen, as well as Reutlingen and Metzingen (with services at the start and end of the day to Bad Urach), trains on lines RE 6, MEX 18 and RB 63 will be cancelled.
  • Construction work runs from mid-July to mid-September; Deutsche Bahn recommends checking connections in advance at bahn.de or in the DB Navigator app.
  • From 10 July to 8 August, Deutsche Bahn will deploy express buses between Stuttgart and Tübingen/Reutlingen, as well as additional bus services between Plochingen, Metzingen and Reutlingen; from 8 p.m., buses will run to/from Tübingen Hbf.
  • From 8 August to 12 [September], further restrictions will follow on the Neckar-Alb-Bahn and the Ermstalbahn, with replacement bus service; the timetable concept is still being prepared.
  • DB InfraGO is renewing, among other things, tracks and switches at Tübingen main station; a platform roof is being built in Metzingen, and the station in Oberboihingen is being made barrier-free.

What this means for travelers

For travelers, it is worth taking a close look at the time period, route and booking conditions. What matters is whether the report already triggers concrete timetable changes or whether it initially describes a political or strategic development.

Context

What to watch now

  • Check concrete timetable or construction information only once travel dates are set.
  • For international trips, allow more generous connection times.
  • Monitor the source and operator information in case dates are still provisional.
