Wetterau: DB to modernize infrastructure from 5 October – weeks of disruptions on RB 46, RB 47 and RB 48

From 5 October, Deutsche Bahn is bundling extensive construction work on several lines in the Wetterau region. Passengers must expect partial cancellations and rail replacement services between Friedberg, Nidda, Wölfersheim-Södel and Gelnhausen until mid-December.

Quick overview

This announcement is particularly relevant for rail passengers, as it may have concrete effects on planning, connections or infrastructure. The focus is on Deutschebahn, Dbinfrago, Wetterau, construction work, rail replacement service, RB 46, RB 47, RB 48, HLB and RMV. The key points are summarized below.

Key points

  • From 5 October 2026, DB InfraGO will renew tracks, lay new cables and modernize three level crossings in the Wetterau region.
  • Construction work on the Ober-Widdersheim – Glauburg-Stockheim line will run from 5 to 18 October 2026.
  • The RB 46 (Nidda – Gelnhausen) will be cancelled from 5 to 18 October 2026; rail replacement bus service will be provided.
  • The RB 47 (Friedberg – Wölfersheim-Södel) will be cancelled from 5 October to 8 November 2026; the RB 48 (Friedberg – Nidda) will be cancelled until 12 December 2026.
  • From 5 to 16 October, trains to and from Frankfurt (Main) Hbf will also be cancelled; timetables are available on DB Navigator, RMVgo, bahn.de and rmv.de.

What this means for travelers

In the short term, little usually changes for travelers, but in the long term, such projects can deliver more stable timetables, better connections and more capacity. During construction phases, diversions and temporary restrictions are possible.

Context

Between 5 October and 12 December 2026, Deutsche Bahn is bundling several construction measures in the Wetterau region to make the infrastructure fit for future operations – including digital train radio. The impacts affect three regional rail lines operated by HLB, with partial cancellations, line closures and rail replacement services. In addition, rail replacement service between Gießen and Nidda is already in place until 12 December 2026.

What to watch now

  • Check specific timetable or construction information only once travel dates are set.
  • Allow more generous connection times for international journeys.
  • Monitor the source and operator information in case dates are still provisional.
