Deutschlandticket 2026: What You Need to Know
The Deutschlandticket survives another year. After months of political negotiations between the federal government and the 16 states, Germany confirmed the monthly flat-rate public transport pass will continue through 2026 at €63/month — up from €49 at launch and €58 in 2025.
What Changed in 2026
- Price increased to €63/month (was €58 in 2025; €49 at 2023 launch)
- Jobticket subsidy remains in place: employers who contribute at least 25% bring your effective monthly cost down to ~€47.25
- Semester ticket integration now covers more universities — check with your institution directly
- Dynamic pricing pilot that was discussed for 2026 has been postponed — the flat rate stays flat
What Stays the Same
- Valid on all regional trains (RE, RB, S-Bahn), U-Bahn, trams, and buses operated by VDV members across all 16 states
- Not valid on ICE, IC, or EC trains
- No minimum contract period — cancel monthly (notice by the 10th of the month)
- Digital-only ticket, delivered via app or PDF to your email
How to Subscribe
- Go to your regional transit authority’s website (e.g., DB Navigator, BVG, MVV, HVV) or download the app
- Select “Deutschlandticket” under subscriptions
- Enter your payment details — SEPA direct debit or credit card accepted
- Your ticket activates on the first of the following month if you subscribe before the 10th of the current month
Is It Worth It in 2026?
At €63/month, the Deutschlandticket breaks even if you make roughly 4-5 regional trips per month that would otherwise cost €15+ each. For commuters, students, and anyone who travels between cities by regional train, it remains one of the best-value transit passes in Europe — even with the €5 increase from 2025.
For long-distance travel, combine it with a DB BahnCard or Sparpreis ticket for ICE connections.
