Deutsche Bahn modernizes Wetterau: Full closures and rail replacement service from October 5

Deutsche Bahn (DB InfraGO) will renew rails, cables and level crossings on several lines in the Wetterau from October 5. Between Ober-Widdersheim, Glauburg-Stockheim, Friedberg, Wölfersheim-Södel, Beienheim and Nidda, line closures will occur – with far-reaching effects on lines RB 46, RB 47 and RB 48 as well as connections to Frankfurt (Main) Hbf.

Quick overview

This report is primarily relevant for rail passengers, as it may have concrete effects on planning, connections or infrastructure. The focus is on Deutschebahn, Dbinfrago, Wetterau, Bauarbeiten, Schienenersatzverkehr, Hlb and Rmv. The key points are summarized in compact form below.

Key points

  • DB InfraGO bundles track, cable and level crossing work on several lines in the Wetterau in order to minimize the impact on operations.
  • Total construction period: October 5 to December 12, 2026 – with individual construction phases until November 8 or October 18.
  • Affected are lines RB 46 (Nidda–Gelnhausen, 5.–18.10.), RB 47 (Friedberg–Wölfersheim-Södel, 5.10.–8.11.) and RB 48 (Friedberg–Nidda, 5.10.–12.12.).
  • From October 5 to 16, no trains will run to and from Frankfurt (Main) Hbf; replacement service buses operated by HLB will be in service.
  • Passenger information on timetable changes and replacement services will be provided via bahn.de, rmv.de, DB Navigator and RMVgo.

What this means for travelers

For travelers, it is worth taking a close look at the time period, route and booking conditions. What matters is whether the report already triggers concrete timetable changes or whether it initially describes a political or strategic development.

Context

Press release from Deutsche Bahn (DB InfraGO), Regional Press Office Frankfurt, dated September 28, 2026. The measure serves to prepare for digital train radio and to upgrade the track and level crossings in the Nidda/Friedberg/Gelnhausen area.

What to watch now

  • Check concrete timetable or construction notices only once travel dates are set.
  • For international journeys, allow more generous connection times.
  • Monitor the source and operator information in case dates are still provisional.
