DB modernizes Wetterau network: Restrictions from October 5 on three route sections

From October 5, 2026, Deutsche Bahn will carry out extensive construction work in the Wetterau region. On several route sections, tracks will be renewed, cables laid and three level crossings modernized. Travelers must expect train cancellations and rail replacement services until mid-December.

Quick overview

This announcement is primarily relevant for rail travelers because it may have concrete effects on planning, connections or infrastructure. The focus is on Deutschebahn, Wetterau, Baustelle, Infrastructure, Schienenersatzverkehr, RB47, RB48 and RB46. The key points are summarized concisely below.

Key points

  • Construction work will run from October 5 to December 12, 2026 on three route sections (Ober-Widdersheim – Glauburg-Stockheim, Friedberg – Wölfersheim-Södel, Beienheim – Nidda).
  • Line RB 46 (Nidda – Gelnhausen) will be canceled from October 5 to 18, 2026.
  • Line RB 47 (Friedberg – Wölfersheim-Södel) will be canceled from October 5 to November 8, 2026.
  • Line RB 48 (Friedberg – Nidda) will be canceled from October 5 to December 12, 2026, with additional no trains from/to Frankfurt (Main) Hbf from October 5 to 16, 2026.
  • Rail replacement bus services will be set up for all closed routes; information via rmv.de, bahn.de, DB Navigator and RMVgo.

What this means for travelers

In the short term, little usually changes for travelers, but in the long term such projects can bring more stable timetables, better connections and more capacity. During construction phases, diversions and temporary restrictions are possible.

Context

DB InfraGO is bundling several construction measures in the Wetterau in order to minimize the impact on rail traffic. The modernization includes track work, cable laying for digital train radio and the renewal of three level crossings. The existing rail replacement service between Gießen and Nidda will be continued until December 12, 2026.

What to watch now

  • Only check specific timetable or construction notices once travel dates are set.
  • For international journeys, allow more generous connection times.
  • Monitor the source and operator information in case dates are still provisional.
