Major construction site between Bensheim and Bürstadt: Diversions and replacement services from July 10

Deutsche Bahn is renewing the infrastructure between Bensheim and Bürstadt starting July 10, 2026. Due to bridge and switch renewals, there will be cancellations in regional and S-Bahn traffic as well as diversions in long-distance traffic.

Quick overview

This message is primarily relevant for rail travelers because it can have concrete impacts on planning, connections or infrastructure. The focus is on Deutsche Bahn, construction work, Hesse, Rb63, Re60, S5, Buerstadt and Bensheim. The most important points are summarized compactly below.

Key points

  • Blockage of the Bensheim–Bürstadt section from July 10 (9 PM) to July 22 (9 PM) 2026.
  • Renewal of the railway bridge in Bensheim as well as switches and a level crossing in Bürstadt.
  • Regional traffic (RE60, RB63, RB68, S5) is partially cancelled and replaced by rail replacement services.
  • Long-distance traffic diverted until July 20; stops in Darmstadt, Bensheim and Weinheim are omitted.
  • Further restrictions on the RB 63 are also expected for August.

What this means for travelers

In the short term, there is usually little change for travelers, but in the long term, such projects can bring more stable schedules, better connections and more capacity. During construction phases, diversions and temporary restrictions are possible.
