From 13 July 2026, the lanes between the Teningen and Freiburg-Nord interchanges will be shifted outward over 1.3 kilometres – with an 80 km/h speed limit and reduced lane width.

Quick overview

This report is primarily relevant for rail travelers because it may have concrete impacts on planning, connections, or infrastructure. The focus is on Deutsche Bahn, Karlsruhe–Basel, expansion, freight rail line, A5, Freiburg, Teningen, construction site, and bridge construction. The key points are summarized below.

Key points

  • First restrictions on the A5 between Teningen and Freiburg-Nord from 6 July 2026.
  • From 13 July 2026, the lanes in both directions will be shifted outward over 1.3 kilometres; the number of lanes remains unchanged.
  • Reduced lane width and speed limit of 80 km/h; increased attention required in the construction area.
  • The traffic configuration is expected to apply until mid-September 2026; during this time, the central reservation will be paved and two new bridges over the Feuerbach will be built.
  • DB will provide information at the start of each new traffic phase; project information is available at www.karlsruhe-basel.de.

What this means for travelers

For travelers, it is worth taking a closer look at the time period, route, and booking conditions. What matters is whether the report already triggers concrete timetable changes or initially describes a political or strategic development.

What to watch now

  • Only check concrete timetable or construction notices once travel dates are set.
  • Allow more generous connection times for international journeys.
  • Monitor the source and operator information in case dates are still provisional.
